Oh Yeah, I Have a Website!  Whoopsy.

When I first started this blog, the plan was to update it every week, on either Saturday or Sunday.  I maintained this grueling schedule for an entire two weeks.  I then decided to update once a month, which means I would devote one full hour a month to writing.  Of course, this proved to be far to much.  I mean, who has that kind of time?  Not I.  So that leaves me without having written jack for the site since July 25th, a whopping 40 days ago.  I apologize to everyone who reads this site - all three of you.

Enough of that - on with the story.  While my condo was in the process of being renovated, work was underway in the common hallways as well.  When I originally bought my condo, the hallways were decorated with trendy industrial drop ceilings, dull, generic paint, and a sweet maroon carpet, nicely stained.  All these aspects brought together a feeling not unlike walking into a frat house.  Which would be fine, except that you have to actually walk through these stylistic black holes to get into the condo.

Here’s a picture of one of my doors.  Don’t the water stains bring a nice ambiance to the entranceway?  The water stains are complemented nicely by the harsh florescent lighting.

The first step towards fixing this design disaster was to remove the drop ceiling.
This exposed the reason why the drop ceilings were installed - the original lathe and plaster was in poor condition.  We also uncovered all of the wires which were run previously for the fire alarm.  Every hole drilled through a wall needed to be filled with drywall compound to meet fire code requirements.
Next, 2X6 framing was nailed into the existing walls.  Once that was done, an electrician ran new wiring and installed cans for the new recessed lighting.  With the recessed lighting in place, it was time to insulate.

Next, 5/8th fire-code drywall was installed, taped, and finished.  Finally, the ceiling was painted a flat white and the walls a light blue.  The final project, illustrated poorly by overly dark photography, is to remove the tired old carpet and refinish the original hardwoods.  Of course, I hopefully will not be around to see this project to completion.  For the reason why, return to this website for the next update, coming anytime in the next 7 to 40 days!
